With the staggering student loan debt that many graduates face, and the income disparity between the private sector and a career in teaching, the ability to retain and attract top faculty is more difficult than ever.
To address this, we are asking that Congressional members support H.R. 996 in the House, and in the Senate support its companion bill S. 359, legislation that would strengthen the Dental Faculty Loan Repayment program. This legislation would exempt certain participants in the Dental Faculty Loan Repayment program from having to pay income tax on the federal loan repayment they receive.
By alleviating the taxation of such payments to dentists who choose to teach future oral health care providers, this legislation will make the program even more effective in recruiting and retaining quality dental faculty.
Please take action today and ask your Senate and House members of Congress to support this important legislation.
